S.T.A.R. Employee Auxiliary (SEA)

History

The Star Employee Auxiliary began over 20 years ago as STAR - The Social Team for Activities at Riddle, to provide our employees with reasonably priced events and activities for themselves and their friends and families. The purpose of these events was to boost employee morale. We held ski trips, tailgate sales, bus trips, summer and fall socials and sold discount tickets to movies, sporting events and Disney on Ice, among other things. Money collected helped to finance our signature event - Santa's Workshop - where employees are encouraged to bring their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to our lobby for a visit with Santa, small gifts, hot chocolate and a free picture on Santa's lap. Families were asked to bring a new, unwrapped gift for a child. This has become a tradition at our hospital and babies that sat on Santa's lap year after year now bring their own babies. At the annual luncheon in June 2012, we presented the Associated Auxiliary with a check for $5,000.

Two years ago Star had only four members left due to retirement, downsizing, etc. and the decision was made join with the Riddle Employee Auxiliary which had only 3 members and had been inactive for 2 years. In order to provide strength in numbers, these employees launched a membership drive in a most unique way (see page 10 of the PAHA Newsletter). As of June 2012, the S.T.A.R. Employee Auxiliary has 55 members and received a plaque in recognition of our "Most Creative Recruitment Event."
